International Textile Biomass Alliance

The International Textile Biomass Alliance: Your green innovation accelerator! This international foundation aims to foster connections between industries, build bridges, unite biomass companies, create value chains, disseminate industry best practices, and ultimately organize, raise public awareness, and communicate more environmentally friendly actions aligned with environmental policies of excellence.

About us

The International Textile Biomass Alliance is a global, independent non-profit foundation dedicated to transforming the way the textile industry relates to sustainability. Founded on the conviction that responsible production and economic performance can, and must, go hand in hand, the ITBA serves as a bridge between industry pioneers, academic institutions, international organisations and policy stakeholders.

Active across three continents, with hubs in Paris, Montreal and Shanghai, the Alliance operates at the intersection of innovation, regulation and best practice dissemination. Our work supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, and aligns with the evolving European regulatory landscape, including the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles.

Message from our president

"Dear members and partners,

On behalf of the International Textile Biomass Alliance, I address you today with a deep conviction in our collective mission. In a world where sustainability is no longer an option but a necessity, our commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12—"Responsible Consumption and Production"—guides every action we take.

As I recently emphasized, "We are here in the common interest of ensuring that we meet the UN commitments for a more sustainable future." This shared vision is at the very heart of our Alliance, which is resolutely committed to building a greener future for the textile industry and related sectors.

Our mission is realized every day through tangible actions: we forge strategic connections between pioneering companies in the sector, develop revolutionary value chains, and strive to disseminate environmental best practices. Our commitment also extends to raising public awareness of environmentally friendly actions, because we firmly believe that every action counts.

Our industry is at a pivotal moment where innovation in textile biomaterials can revolutionize traditional production methods. The responsible use of resources and the transformation of our waste into raw materials are no longer mere concepts, but imperatives that we must make a reality.

Together, we can redefine the future of the textile industry by creating an economic model that respects our planet while generating sustainable growth. Because that is our collective ambition: to reinvent textile biomass for a more responsible planet.

Sincerely,"

Julien Tougeron

Our mission

The International Textile Biomass Alliance's mission is structured around five pillars that guide every initiative, programme and partnership we undertake:

  • Connection: Building strategic relationships between pioneering companies, researchers and institutions across the global textile value chain.

  • Innovation: Identifying, supporting and scaling innovative approaches to biomass sourcing, fibre recycling, and circular textile production.

  • Certification: Developing and administering rigorous, internationally recognised standards through the FiberForever™ framework.

  • Education: Delivering targeted training and knowledge-sharing programmes that equip professionals to implement sustainable practices at every stage of production.

  • Advocacy: Raising awareness among public and private stakeholders about the environmental and economic case for sustainable textile biomass.

Our vision

Our vision is an international textile sector in which responsible biomass use is the norm rather than the exception — where producers, brands and regulators share a common language of verified environmental performance, and where sustainability drives value rather than cost.

The ITBA is building that future through a growing community of members who believe that the decisions made today in boardrooms, supply chains and production facilities will define the industry's environmental legacy for generations.
